Understand Your Roof Warranty Before You Need It

A new roof is a long-term investment in your home’s protection, performance, and value; and that protection should come backed by a warranty you can count on. At The Roofing Company, we install complete Owens Corning roofing systems backed by some of the most comprehensive warranties available in the industry. As a Platinum Preferred Contractor, we’re part of a select group that can offer extended, factory-backed coverage most roofers simply can’t match.

What Does a Roof Warranty Actually Cover?

Every roof warranty we offer includes two types of protection: material defects and workmanship.

Material coverage protects against manufacturer defects in your shingles and qualifying components. During the Owens Corning TruPROtection Period, you receive full coverage for materials and labor. After that, the warranty continues on a prorated basis for the lifetime of your roof.

Workmanship coverage protects you if the roof was installed incorrectly. If there’s a leak, separation, or system failure due to poor application, Owens Corning will cover the labor, materials, tear-off, and disposal at no cost to you.

Only Owens Corning Platinum or Preferred Contractors can offer workmanship coverage, and not all roofers qualify.

Roof Warranty Options

We help homeowners choose the warranty that fits their home, budget, and long-term plans. Below are the three main warranty levels available through Owens Corning.

Standard Roofing Warranty

This warranty covers manufacturing defects for 10 years with full material and labor protection. After year 10, it switches to prorated material-only coverage. No workmanship coverage is included.

Preferred Protection Warranty

Offered only through certified contractors. This warranty gives you 50 years of full protection on materials and labor for manufacturing defects, plus 10 years of workmanship coverage. Algae resistance increases to 25 years when installed with qualifying ridge shingles.

Platinum Protection Roofing Warranty

This is Owens Corning’s highest level of roof warranty. It includes 50 years of material and labor coverage, 25 years of workmanship protection, and full coverage for tear-off and disposal if needed. After 25 years, workmanship coverage continues on a prorated basis.

To qualify for Preferred or Platinum coverage, your roof must include at least four Owens Corning system components. We make sure your installation meets all requirements for maximum warranty eligibility.

Is Your Roof Warranty Transferable?

Roofs installed by The Roofing Company come with warranty options through Owens Corning that can be transferred one time. This applies only to warranties offered by Owens Corning Preferred and Platinum Preferred Contractors. If you sell your home, the remaining warranty can be passed to the new owner, adding protection after closing and increasing the home’s value to potential buyers.

Roof Warranties for Commercial and Multi-Family Buildings

If you’re installing shingles on a commercial or multi-family property, you still qualify for Owens Corning coverage, but the terms change slightly. Instead of a lifetime roof warranty, the coverage lasts 40 years. The TruPROtection Period is reduced to five years, then prorates down annually until expiration. Workmanship warranties remain available when installed by a certified contractor like us.

What Happens to Your Roof Warranty If You Go Solar?

Good news: your Owens Corning roofing system is compatible with solar panel installations. We recommend installing your new roof before mounting solar panels, to ensures full protection from the start and avoid complications with third-party solar installers.

But here's what you need to know:

The roof warranty still applies under a solar panel array.
Damage caused during the solar installation is not covered.
Workmanship issues related to the racking or panel system are also excluded.

How to File a Roof Warranty Claim

If you think something may be covered by your warranty, start by calling our office. We’ll inspect your roof and determine whether a claim is appropriate. If so, we’ll assist with the documentation and work directly with Owens Corning on your behalf. You’ll receive a written decision from Owens Corning explaining the outcome and next steps.
